The Stories Our Photos Tell: The Party Shirt
It’s funny how something as simple as a shirt can bring back so many memories. For our family, it’s the tradition of the party shirt and I love it when a party shirt shows up in a photo.
As my dad got closer and closer to retirement he started wearing subtle Hawaiian-style shirts when going to casual social events and at our annual beach trip. My young son adored his grandfather and wanted to wear “party shirts” (as Alex called them) just like his grandad. We knew we were in for a good time when the party shirts were put on.
Right after my dad’s funeral, my mom decided she wanted every man in our family to have one of Dan’s party shirts. Each guy picked out his favorite and my husband came home with several. He wears them on every beach vacation, just like my dad.
Now my son is a teenager and the day he said no to a party shirt was a sad one to me. Maybe one day he’ll carry on the tradition. I sure hope so.
