Video Conversion & Digitizing

  • Do you have old family movies that are stuck on outdated formats you can’t play anymore?
  • When was the last time you watched your wedding video?
  • Are your cherished home videos stored on old VHS tapes, CDs, or DVDs gathering dust?
  • Do you feel like you’re not properly preserving your family’s memories because you can’t easily share those videos with relatives?

Now is the time to safeguard and enjoy those irreplaceable memories by converting them into accessible, high-quality digital formats.

Why Convert Your Videos?

  • Preserve Family History: Old video formats like VHS degrade over time, leading to loss of quality or even complete footage loss. Digital conversion helps protect your memories for future generations.
  • Easily Shareable: Once digitized, your videos are ready to be shared with family and friends, whether by email, cloud storage, or social media.
  • Access Anytime: No need to dig through dusty boxes or find working VHS players—your videos will be available on any device, at any time.
  • Long-Term Protection: Digital videos are less likely to degrade over time, making them easier to store, back up, and enjoy for years to come.

Good Life Photo Solutions offers premium conversion and digitization of:

VHS tapes

Hi8 tapes

Digital 8 tapes

MiniDVDs

CDs, DVDs and audio tapes

And much more

We handle a wide variety of formats to ensure your memories are preserved in high-quality digital files, ready for easy viewing, sharing, and long-term storage.

We convert the common home movie formats such as VHS, VHS-C, Video 8, Hi 8, Digital 8, and MiniDV in our Smithfield, Virginia office. We have a local vendor that converts film reels for us under our close supervision.

If you have something to convert that we don't have listed, just ask us!

All videos will be delivered as MP4 files with high-quality H.264 compression, which is industry standard and easily shareable.

If you live in the central or southeastern area of Virginia, we can make arrangements for you to deliver to videos to us. Or we can travel to you to pick them up (A travel fee of $0.50/mile roundtrip from Smithfield, Virginia will be charged).

Not local? Don’t worry. You can ship your items to us and we’ll send your digital files and original items back to you (shipping fee not included).  Clients from all over the world have shipped their precious items to us and we've returned them the same way without issue. We recommend using a trusted shipping company such as UPS or FedEx to send your items.

If you are nervous about shipping your items to us, we suggest shipping in smaller batches.

All digital files will be delivered by one or more of the following methods depending on the size of the archive and client request:

  • WeTransfer link ($15 - link will be active for 14 days after delivery)
  • USB drive ($25 each)
  • External Hard Drive (variable cost depending on size; usually around $150 for a solid state drive)

We do not deliver files on CDs.

You will receive all of your original items back in a manner agreed upon between you and Good Life Photo Solutions.

No. We use our own tested equipment so all you need to send is your tapes or DVDs.

However, we are always looking for backup cameras and VCRs so if you have one you are looking to get rid of, please let us know.

No, we don't deliver any files on DVDs or CDs. We find that this is not a good format for archiving, sharing, and saving. It's much more reliable to use USBs or external hard drives.

We use clues from the tape box, the tape itself, and the video to come up with a customized name for each video. Using a standard naming convention, a tape marked 1987 Easter at Grandma's would be named 1987-04 Easter at Grandmas.mp4. This basic renaming is included in our standard cost.

No. We only convert entire tapes because it's not cost-effective for our staff to sit and watch the recording to capture just a small section. If you want just a small section, we can crop the video to that size at our regular hourly rate of $100/hour, in addition to the original conversion charge.

Because we convert your videos to MP4 files (a standardized video file type), you can watch them on most computers, tablets, laptops, and smart TVs.

You can share your MP4 files on a thumb drive or online sites such as social media, YouTube, or Vimeo.

We have an optional service in which we can upload your videos to a private Youtube playlist on your YouTube channel. This is charged at our regular hourly rate of $100.

But I Don’t Live in Virginia—Can You Help Me?

Of course! We can work with clients nationwide. Simply send your tapes, CDs, or DVDs to us, and we’ll handle the conversion. Once completed, we’ll return your originals and provide you with your new digital files.

Words from Happy Clients

"Andi scanned some old slides from my father's time in Vietnam in the 1960s. It was great to be able to look at those pictures. Some of them we had never seen before. A huge box of slides turned into images is a discovered treasure."
